Mumbai-Pune hyperloop transport project has now been accorded the infrastructure status. The project will help reduce travel time between the two Maharashtrian cities to 23 minutes, which currently takes up to 4 hours (to cover 150 km). The infrastructure status was approved by the Maharashtra cabinet.

According to reports, the project report would have to be produced, and that will then be open for debate and challenges. The best proposal would be awarded the rights for building and operating the Mumbai-Pune hyperloop. Giving the project a public infrastructure status will allow it to get funds more easily, along with concessions.

The Hyperloop project is an ambitious one, which is a superfast transportation system that is going to run between Mumbai and Pune. It will run 117.5 km between BKC, Mumbai to Wakadin, Pune at the speed of 496 km per hour, which will certainly make a vast difference in the time taken.

The project will take seven years to complete, and is going to cost INR 70000 crore. The first phase will see it go on a pilot run covering 11.8 km. Also, the state government has allocated 15 km long stretch from Kiwale to Urse in Pune for a test track. This track, along with the hyperloop one will run alongside the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
